One of the First days of riding out at Doug Henry’s, Papa Smage managed to brush up against a tree while riding a section. At first he simply thought he ripped his favorite jersey, only to find a half inch deep and 7 inch gouge in his forearm. Tony C. cruised him to the local hospital to get 20 or so stitches. The funny thing about the story was how he was just staying how safe it was to have all the trees around the rocks in case you fall off one. Little did he know that a chunk of his flesh and hair was left hanging off the tree. (See SA3: Smagical Acres crash segment this winter).
Being the thinker that he is, Phil decided to give long boarding a try for the first time the day before the Rhode Island Trials National. Midway down his first hill, he got crazy speed wobbles and had to jump off, rolling down the road and slamming his wrist. Once the crew got back to Smagical Acres, Phil got it checked out at the Docs office, two weeks later. The doctor couldnt be sure if there was a break, but he didnt think so. He also couldnt give proper advice on what to do, except see a specialist. With the Vegas Endurocross opener just over a week away, and still not able to ride a motorcycle, his fingers are crossed for some fast healing.
Also, Will Sharp took a big slam at the Rhode Island Trials Nationals. He fell from about 10 feet up, with his bike chasing him down the rock slab. It caught his lower leg and busted his Tib/Fib. He has a long recovery, but will be back shredding strong.
A big get-well to the downed riders from Smagical.com!
